After a write-up regarding the “
So as I mentioned above, after I wrote a story about the “Xiaomi” BJD, my friend approached me and asked if I would like to review a unit of the doll. And I decided to go for it since I am really interested to know how they build the doll and the quality of the doll itself.
My friend passed me the cash to purchase the doll and I have ordered it via a China-based proxy website, Suqibuy. They charged
The outer box itself is covered with a matte coated plastic cover.
First Impression/The box
The first impression of the box itself. It gave me a quality build vibe. The box is matte coated and you can feel that the cardboard itself is quality.
There’s a “Xiaomi platform” printing on the front of the box itself. Now that is interesting, this item is not produced nor they are being manufactured by
Behind there are details on the doll. What they are manufactured from, the company details etc.
Now the interesting part is their English/Japanese introduction writing. The English itself is weird, I mean you can understand what it means but some of the sentences contradict each others. For example, in the introduction paragraph it says
With added diversity and more varity in styles, kids everywhere will have inpnitely more ways to spark their imaginations.Product features – Monst
However, under the special note, it wrote the items is only for adult collectors. Does that mean it is not suitable for kids to be played with? And also, it wrote, “Doll Stand included”, which in fact it is not included. I guess we have to refer to the Chinese introduction instead of this Japanese/English translated description.
After pulling out the inner frame of the box, I was greeted by the doll itself with a head protection cap fixed to the top of the inner box.
Included in the box is only the doll itself with clothes/wig already on the doll, and a paper with information on how to use the doll.
Some information worth mentioning from the paper is
The doll is being held tight by four zip lock tie, the waist, both of the hand and legs. (questionable decision to use cable tie but all of the exposed body parts are covered with either the cloth itself or a layer of plastic so all is well.
Next is the main highlight of the product, the doll itself.
The wig is being glued like what the introduction paper said. But it is being glued on with hot glue, so it is possible to heat up the hot glue and change the hair if you wish to. and the wig is being covered with plastic to protect the wig from being damaged while shipping.
The hand joints are using a drilled hole on a solid block hand and
The tights parts are using DD inner frame like joint too. You can move front and back with almost 360 angles without any
The body itself are using a two parts body parts. Upper and lower part. You can twist it to change the position of the doll but with limitation.
The leg joint itself can be turn with limited position. Front and back. If you wish to turn the leg you have to utilize the ball joint on the tights to turn the leg.
The eyes itself feels like a real glass made eyes that is generally being used on a Volks’ SD doll.
The body itself as expected there’s three different
You can balance the doll without any help from a stand, but the balance point is kinda hard to find. It took my a while before I can find a balance point and let it stand without any help from a stand.
First impression on the clothing included, it is pretty decent. What is included are
- The lolita dress
- The undergarment (like a inner pants)
The lolita dress itself is pretty decent. The sewing is pretty good, the detail is there. I would say I like it! Same goes to the socks and the undergarment. Nothing much to comment about those.
*updated* According to a reliable source, the design of the clothes is actually authurized by the original designer of the clothes. So this company actually have all the right to sell their design.
The shoes itself is mediocre. It is not impressive, nor it is poorly built it is what it is. If you were to bring her out with that default boot, you can, but if you have a better quality shoe you are better off with those. The included shoes uses magic taping and sometimes it is hard to tape it back. (not sure if it is because of the quality or my hand are too huge).
First of all, I would like to clarify that I never own any SD doll and the only doll that I’ve collected till now is only Volk’s Dollfie Dream. This review is from a POV of DD collectors. I have a bit of SD related knowledge but limited.
The size of the body is around 30CM hence is comparable with Volks YoSD size. The quality of the doll itself is pretty solid. However the joint is kind of flimsy, and it gives you the feeling that if you turn it around too much it might break. The vinyl skin is soft to touch, but because the body parts itself is not hollow it doesn’t have the “elasticity” feel of the DD parts. if you pushed the DD body parts inward, it will return to the original position.
Another issue will be the
Overall, the body joint/inner
Last but not least, the argument that bring the light to this product, where they claims that the seller are branding this as a BJD while it’s not. (This is debatable, but we will leave it as it’s. I would have to say it’s all based on your point of view on definition of a BJD. While there’s xiaomi branding on the box itself, it’s technically not a xiaomi product. Though, I don’t mind xiaomi actually make a doll with function like google home, and you can call it a smart doll like a smart watch or smart TV.
